Why PADI Open Water with Ocean Adventures?

Our goal is to provide the highest level of customer satisfaction! We have been serving the Venice Beach area for nine years.  Come in and look around, join us exploring the Underwater World! Ocean Adventures prides itself on thorough training, safety and care for the students and dive environment. We always have small classes, with absolutely no more than 8 students in a class at any time. Assistants are with each instructor for more personal attention.

As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and respected rating in the world, you will have the freedom to dive with a buddy of your choice (Jr. Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 12 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 12 meters/40 feet).

What do I need to start?

  • Virtually anyone who is older than 10-years-old and in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification.
  • Signed Medical Certification Statement (download here)

What will I do?

Open Water classes are conducted on a regular basis, typically over 2 consecutive weekends. The first weekend covers basic knowledge and pool skills. The second weekend is putting everything you learned during the first weekend into practice while the ocean dives. We offer some classes with boat dives while some with beach dives (for those more price sensitive).

How long will it take?

PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. We offer group, semi private, private and “girls only” classes to accommodate every need. Open Water classes are conducted on a regular basis, typically over 2 consecutive weekends.

*Boat Option:

Southern California’s Channel Islands are constantly rated one of the top ten dive destinations by the major dive publications every year. Your adventure begins with an early morning departure form either Long Beach or Ventura Harbor. From there you will take a short ride to either Catalina or Anacapa Island, where you will experience Southern California diving at its best. All boat trips include air, snacks and drinks.

*BEACH Option:

Beach diving is the economical way to dive in Southern California. You will experience Redondo Beaches Veterans Park. This park was built specifically for SCUBA Diving. The stairs are a bit shorter than a standard stair making it easier for divers to go up and down with their gear. With it’s sandy bottom divers will find it similar to the pool when doing their skills. We do suggest that you be comfortable with surf entries and that you are also used to swimming in the ocean.

*Catalina Island Weekend:

Enjoy a mini-vacation as you learn to SCUBA at historic Casino Point. This five-acre dive park and fish sanctuary was developed for the ultimate Southern California SCUBA experience. With its varied terrain and diverse wildlife you will come back and explore this wonderful park and Catalina Island again and again. For this option please add $50 from June 1 to September 30 as there is a two night minimum stay during this period.
