| PLEASE WELCOME OADC's NEWEST STAFF MEMBER |
 |
|
Please join us Tuesday not only for the Dive Club
meeting but to meet OADC's newest staff member,
Course Director Szilvia Gogh. Szilvia started diving as
soon as she was old enough to be certified. She
spent the first few years diving with BHG Dive Club, a
club affiliated with the Hungarian Military. She always
knew she wanted to be a scuba instructor, and as
soon as she learned English, became a PADI Pro. In
the last 20 years, she's logged more than 5000 dives
and was accepted to the PADI Course Director
program in 2002, making her the youngest female
Course Director on the World.
Szilvia managed Aqua Adventures Unlimited,
overseeing training and organizing local and
international travel. She taught some of
the LAPD Underwater Dive Team leaders, worked with
celebrities, performing stunts and water safety on
movie/photo shoots. Between PADI America, PADI
Asia, PADI International, EFR and DAN she issued
more than 1000 certifications from Open Water to
instructor level.
Aside from managing Aqua Adventures, in 2008 she
started her own company, Miss Scuba. Miss Scuba
was designed to bring women together from all over
the world who share enthusiasm about diving, travel
and adventure. Miss Scuba is more than a group of
women that travel the world together to explore the
most exotic places and best dive sites. Miss Scuba is
a fantastic resource where women share incredible
adventures and helpful tips about travel, hot new
products and exciting destinations. Miss Scuba is a
culture of its own; an expression of free will,
untamed souls, a rebellion against mediocrity and the
yearning for finding adventure and excitement in life.
Check it out at www.miss-scuba.com.
Welcome Szilvia at Tuesday night's Dive Club
meeting, and be sure to congratulate Leonard Seagal,
OADC's newest instructor!

| PROTECTING SHARKS PROTECTING OUR OCEANS |
 |
|
Check out the link below and learn more about Shark
Rescue, an organization working to see a sustained
balance restored to the world's oceans.
As the apex predator, sharks are especially important
for maintaining the ocean's balance. When the sharks
are gone, so too will the ocean's health.
Shark Rescue has a goal to end the shark trade,
This unregulated fishery has effectively decimated
more than 90 percent of the world's sharks, more than
30 percent of the ocean's species
The third goal is to see a full moratorium on shark
fisheries and the longlines that catch sharks and
other 'bycatch."
Since Shark Rescue started in Hong Kong, the
local audacious goal is to see the City become the
leader in marine conservation by the year 2020.

ACID TEST - THE DOCUMENTARY SEPT 8 DIVE CLUB MEETING |
|
|
Join us Tuesday, September 8, at Ocean Adventures
to view this groundbreaking Natural Resources
Defense Council (NRDC) documentary which
explores the startling phenomenon of ocean
acidification, which may soon challenge marine life on
a scale not seen for tens of millions of years. The film,
featuring Sigourney Weaver, premiered on Discovery
Planet Green throughout Blue August, a month
devoted to on-air and online programming about the
wonders and mysteries of the oceans. Daniel
Hinerfeld, writer, co-director, co-producer, and nephew
of OADC divers Tom Hinerfeld & Grainne Ward,
will be the featured speaker.
ACID TEST was made to raise awareness about this
largely unknown problem, which poses a fundamental
challenge to life in the seas and the health of the
entire planet. Like global warming, ocean acidification
stems from the increase of carbon dioxide in the
earth's atmosphere since the start of the Industrial
Revolution.
Leading scientific experts on the problem, many of
whom appear in the film, believe that it's possible to
cut back on global warming pollution, improve the
overall health and durability of our oceans, and
prevent serious harm to our world, but only if action is
taken quickly and decisively.
The Dive Club meeting begins at 7pm, Tuesday,
September 8, at Ocean Adventures. This one you
won't want to miss.
