LUMINOX - THE NAVY SEAL DIVE WATCH - NOW FOR SALE AT OADC

The Luminox Watch Company began in 1989 when the founder, Barry Cohen, who was already in the watch business, discovered a need and filled it. One of life's realities is degeneration of eyesight as one ages, and finding methods to see anything better (in this case-time) made sense.

The founder heard of a unique Swiss self- powered illumination system, making watches more visible and easier to read in low or no light situations. He acquired the rights to use the technology in a new brand of watches now called LLT (Luminox Light Technology).

Today, Luminox can be found in more than 30 nations with more being added regularly. Luminox created a dive model in 1993, shortly after, a U.S. Navy SEAL procurement officer contacted Luminox and explained their need for this luminous technology for use on night missions. The SEALs needed to have the new dive watch re-engineered to meet their rigorous specifications, and after many months of redesigning, the revamped dive watch was offered to the SEAL teams in early 1994. Luminox went out to the world to offer this same watch to consumers as the Original Navy SEAL dive watch. It became an instant success. From there, Luminox expanded the collection to include a variety of dial colors, as well as improved and upgraded versions of the Original Navy SEAL dive series, and ultimately an entire line of watches of many types and styles created for the active consumer, the sportsman, law enforcement and, of course, military groups.

Next time you stop by the shop, check out the variety of Luminox watches for sale.

ARC OF THE DIVER FILMAKER TO SPEAK AT CLUB MEETING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th

Steve Clark spent 25 years as a commercial photographer in Los Angeles shooting still life, fashion, and beauty. Nine years ago I read a book called, "Song for the Blue Ocean" by Carl Safina, had an epiphany and decided to start glamorizing fish rather than fashion models. He took lighting cues from his work in fashion and developed a version of classic "north light" and used it on his swimming subjects, culminating in the short film, "Arc of the Diver."

In 2002 Clark sailed his boat, Windshear from Los Angeles to Auckland by way of the South Pacific, racking up about 8,000 offshore miles in the process plus many unique ocean adventures. Trained on a KISS closed circuit rebreather Clark traveled for diving to Hawaii, Fiji, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Thailand, Sulawesi, California, and Raja Ampat

Clark became involved in the creation of marine protected areas in the Channel Islands. and testified at the US Navy sonar hearings. He also volunteers at schools to show the film and answer questions about the sea, using his skills to help educate children about the ocean's beauty, fragility and the importance of maintaining a healthy sea.

Arc of a Diver has been accepted at the following film festivals: Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner (finalist) International Wildlife Film Festival (finalist) Montana CINE (winner best children's film) Kids First! Film Festival (runner up for best short doc 2008) Los Angeles Children's Film Festival (finalist) Celebrate the Sea Film Festival (honor of distinction)

Join Us Tuesday Feb 10th 7:00PM at OADC to hear Steve talk about his love for underwater photography
